This article shows how to navigate in your Excel workbook with ease. Below is a basic sample worksheet. Notice the Name Box. When you place your mouse near or over that area, the description
Name Box
appears. The usefulness of this small feature is a bit overwhelming. For now, it is good to know that not only does it show the current cell’s address, it can also be used as a ‘Go To’ box. If you know exactly or even approximately where you want to go, this little portal can take you there quickly.
Excel is the tool of choice for getting data ready for import. Data is brought into Excel directly from the legacy program, or it is imported as a delimited file created by another application. Everybody has dirty data. If you are lucky, on a normal business day it isn’t noticed very much, if at all. But, during a data migration, it can cause more than an embarrassment. Dynamics GP interfaces with Excel in several different ways. The most common ways are through built in functions like Smartlists, Excel Budgets, and Dynamics pre-defined Excel reports. These are the base interfaces, but there are also several other methods to link GP data to Excel. One of the most difficult decisions that has to be made during a new system implementation is how much and what kind of data to migrate from your old system to the new. How many years do we bring over? Do we bring over detailed or summarized data? Is it reconciled? Will we have access to old system for historical reporting purposes? These are all questions that are posed and answers that are debated during the process of making the decision.
In previous blog posts, we have learned how two ways to get fixed asset purchases into Acumatica ERP. The first was entering them manually and the other was to create the fixed asset records from purchases. Both of these methods work and are extremely efficient when entering a few fixed assets. In some situations, your company may purchase many fixed assets at the same time which would make manual entry a long laborious process. Using the built in function of Integration Services in Acumatica ERP, one can quickly create a routine that will import multiple fixed assets into the system using data from an Excel spreadsheet.
This year Convergence was held in Atlanta. While this conference is a huge Dynamics Users conference, they highlight applications that are not necessarily part of the Dynamic stack. One of the most captivating sessions I attended focused on Power BI, Microsoft’s excel based Business Intelligence tool.

The adage “A picture is worth a thousand words” refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image. It also appropriately characterizes one of the main goals of data visualization, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly.
The point of Power View is to make it very easy to create pretty, interactive data presentations or reports that will make your boss go “Wow, how did you do that? You’re a genius!” Well, OK, maybe not that far but you’ll definitely look smart. Plus, it also can be used to explore your data visually without worrying about messing anything up and even make reports on your own, without IT help.
