Leverage Your GP Reports Outside of GP!

Did you know that Microsoft Dynamics GP comes with around 260 SQL reports ready to be used? These reports can be used right out of the box and they don’t require any modifications. Imagine if you could make these reports available to non-GP users; just put them on your company’s internal website; or build an iframe in CRM and display GP data inside CRM. Well, you can do all of this and more if you manage to get these reports out of GP. The way to do this is to deploy them to SQL Server Reporting Services.

Real Time Data Warehouse ETL (Part 1)

Part 1 – Implementing Service Broker as a Real Time ETL Tool

The cheapest and easiest way to solve the real-time ETL problem is to not even attempt it in the first place, but we live in the real world and businesses are saying that:

·      Viewing yesterday’s data is no longer sufficient.

·      They need a faster reaction time to respond to threats and opportunities.

How are the Parature and Marketing Pilot Purchases for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Coming Along?

Last year, Microsoft unveiled a comprehensive set of new Microsoft Dynamics CRM capabilities by purchasing a social listening tool, a social engagement tool, a marketing tool, and a customer service tool.  This customer service tool, or “Customer Care” tool, Parature, and the marketing tool, Marketing Pilot, has been integrating into CRM for the last year and are now ready to help organizations match their customers to the right products and services, engage with them in the right way at the right time, and nurture their relationships.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Ugg Boots, Thick Sweaters, and … Falling Lead Numbers?

September marks the first month of Fall and man, do I love Fall. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, also known as PSLs, are available at the local coffee shops, Ugg Boots are acceptable to start wearing as the chilly weather comes in, and thick sweaters are being stocked in all the trendy clothing shops. We’ve made it through summer and the thick humidity and are now settled back in our offices from our last fling of summer vacations. Many marketing and sales representatives start to think that since summer and vacations are over, their lead generation will soon rise and the end of the year deal closings will be back at it. This isn’t the case though. Logically thinking, summer is the start to what I would consider a downward trend in the market.

WOW! A Dynamics GP multi-company Financial Dashboard

Dynamics GP can deploy some great Excel dashboard’s in GP2015 and Jared Hall created a awesome Financial Dashboard that you can download here.  The problem with all of these solutions is that most Dynamics GP environments are multi-company setups making these dashboards not very functional without navigating and opening multiple Excel spreadsheets to view each company’s dashboard.  So I took it upon myself to modify the one provided by Jared Hall to work in a multi-company Dynamics GP setup.

The Importance of Requirements Gathering for Software Projects

Requirements are an essential part of any software project and the foundation on which all projects should be built. The gathering of and compiling of requirements for a software project is very much a partnership between the user of the software and the developer. Obviously the customer or software user needs to communicate to the developer what they need, but at the same time the developer needs to be able to anticipate needs and ask the right questions during the requirements gathering phase of a project.

Troubleshooting Locked Records in Dynamics GP

In this month’s blog, I wanted to address the primary reasons records may be locked in Dynamics GP and various ways to unlock the records.  The causes of records being locked in Dynamics GP may happen for a variety of reasons, but the fix is quite similar.  Two of the primary reasons records may be locked in Dynamics GP are from batches having issues while being posted and records being edited by a user.   The records remain locked until the batch is posted or the user has saved their changes.  If something happens during these processes, the lock may not be released and the record could remain locked.
